Ecotoxicity of Microplastic Pollutants to Marine Organisms: a Systematic Review

چکیده

Plastic is a ubiquitous material used across the globe. It easily transported to various habitats and can then be ingested by animals, with potential bioaccumulate up food chain further. Although classified as solid waste, some plastics considered hazardous waste due chemicals in production process those that adsorbed, such hydrophobic pollutants seawater. Plastics break down into secondary particulate plastics, or microscopically primary smaller than 5 mm. Marine organisms of all sizes mistake plastic for consume prey microplastics. This cause detrimental toxic effects at cellular, biochemical, muscular level. research uses systematic quantitative literature review (SQLR) method determine most common polymers, chemicals, marine ingest microplastic incur ecotoxicological consequences. The results indicated polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS) topmost between 1 100 μm. was observed sink non-additive more vector. Persistent organic (POPs) were found. Biological impacts side included mortality, reproductive effects, genotoxicity, accumulation, behavioral effects. Susceptibility of Sardinella lemuru to emerging marine microplastic pollution

Marine microplastics are emerging pollutants that impact across levels of marine food chain at a global scale. Its presence was determined on Sardinella lemuru, a commercial pelagic fish that are harvested generally in the Northern Mindanao, consumed locally, and exported worldwide as bottled or canned sardine products.  The stomach contents of 600 sardines were examined visually under...

Physical transport properties of marine microplastic pollution

Biogeosciences Discussions This discussion paper is/has been under review for the journal Biogeosciences (BG). Please refer to the corresponding final paper in BG if available. Abstract Given the complexity of quantitative collection, knowledge of the distribution of mi-croplastic pollution in many regions of the world ocean is patchy, both spatially and temporally, especially for the subsurfac...

The physical impacts of microplastics on marine organisms: a review.

Plastic debris at the micro-, and potentially also the nano-scale, are widespread in the environment. Microplastics have accumulated in oceans and sediments worldwide in recent years, with maximum concentrations reaching 100 000 particles m(3). Due to their small size, microplastics may be ingested by low trophic fauna, with uncertain consequences for the health of the organism. This review foc...

Ingestion of microplastic has limited impact on a marine larva.

There is increasing concern about the impacts of microplastics (<1 mm) on marine biota. Microplastics may be mistaken for food items and ingested by a wide variety of organisms. While the effects of ingesting microplastic have been explored for some adult organisms, there is poor understanding of the effects of microplastic ingestion on marine larvae. Here, we investigated the ingestion of poly...
